Smart Tweezers LCR-meter have become a popular tool for testing and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology. The unique design makes it easy to grasp and hold any component with the combination of a set of tweezers and an LCR-meter in a nearly pen sized device. When in contact with a component, the device will automatically determine the type of component and measure for Inductance, Capacitance or Resistance as well as secondary values such as the Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR).
Siborg has remodeled Smart Tweezers to become more available to users. Previously, Smart Tweezers is offered at a relatively high price of around $500 USD. The LCR-Reader is a more budget friendly model, retailing around $200, while still offering fully automatic measurements and a high basic accuracy of 1%.
To achieve this, the LCR-Reader doesn’t include features such as component sorting with variable tolerances, variable test signals (opting for a fixed 0.5 Vrms; this may hinder testing ceramic components.) and semi-automatic offset subtraction.
The LCR-Reader is the first device to debut an updated look for the popular LCR-meters. This includes a lighter weight of 1 oz., a slimmer body and a bright OLED display; nearly half the weight and size of previous models.
A new one button navigation allows users cycle through measurement modes, instead of having to access the menus. This saves time when needing to set the device to a specific measurement mode. All measurement values are instantly displayed on the embedded display.
The LCR-Reader will be released in the summer of 2013, with sales estimated to be four fold compared to the previous sales of Smart Tweezers ST5.
